West Weekly Wrap-up (W3) Report for end of Jan. of 2010

Greetings everybody. What a doozy of a week this has been! There is so much to address regarding the week's monumental events, but I shall seek to be concise and succinct in my assessment. My week started with the opportunity to speak at two Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations. The most intriguing one was in Deerfield Beach, where I listened to five black ministers address the audience. It was astonishing to hear each of them speak of conservative values without realizing that they were even doing so. They delivered emotional speeches about individual responsibility and traditional family values. One even conveyed a clever analysis saying, "once upon a time the black community had working men and pretty women, now it has pretty men and working women"....quite profound! They all rejected the philosophy of victimization and promoted a sense of empowerment. Hopefully, African-Americans, and all Americans, can find strength in the values of individual responsibility, accountability, and honoring the family, so that all people, of all color, can prosper and flourish. On Tuesday, I was invited to a superb fundraiser event held at the Eagle Distributing Company owned by Colonel John Saputo (USMC, Ret.) in Lakewood Ranches Florida, near Sarasota. I was absolutely honored to have such support from outside the congressional district. As always, thanks to everyone who is helping the campaign in our push to victory in November. If you want more information or are new to our message, please find your way to www.AllenWestforCongress.com for more information. Any help as a volunteer or in the form of a donation is greatly appreciated. Our opponent, Ron Klein, is well financed by liberal special interests and every donation to our team helps. We are also in need of petitions, so if you live in the District please take a moment to fill one out here. However, the real story of this past Tuesday was the victory of Senator (elect) Scott Brown in Massachusetts. Massachusetts! What that victory showed is that the people are still in charge of the political process in America, even in Massachusetts, even when it comes to "Ted Kennedy's seat". It shows that Americans are no longer accepting the principle of leadership by entitlement; we must earn the trust, confidence, respect, and the vote of the people....yours truly included. And it shows that Americans no longer trust the far left-wing, tax and spend, regulate and dictate agenda spearheaded by the President, by Nancy Pelosi, and by my opponent, Ron Klein. Americans were appalled at the recent events in Congress with the bribery and behind the doors chicanery that incensed them beyond imagination. We must now maintain the momentum and target winnable races all across the nation against the progressive liberal agenda championed by folks like Nancy Pelosi and Ron Klein. We must now understand that the cat is cornered and is about to come out scratching and clawing. Be ready, vigilant, resolute, and educated on the issues, so that come November, we can return power from Ron Klein's Washington to folks just like you. Last point on this. We must not seek to create an alternate ego "rock star" on the other side of the aisle. Put not your total faith in any man or woman....and I mean that of myself as well........put your faith in each other, in America, and its constitutional principles and values. If we do that, we can restore the ideals of this great country. Speaking of our constitutional republic and its values, what an incredible decision handed down by the Supreme Court! In a 5-4 decision, the high court ruled that restricting unions and corporations from particpating in the political process is an infringement upon their right to free speech. This will change the landscape of political campaigning by reversing a critical aspect of the McCain-Feingold legislation. These entities can now freely run advertisements for or against candidates and incumbents in elections. You know it is a good thing because the President and liberals are gnashing the teeth and flailing about the floor. Another landmark event was the recognition of the 1972 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. I was listening to talk radio this week and a Vietnam Veteran said something quite profound. So many castigated returning veterans from Vietnam as "baby killers", I know because my older brother was a Vietnam Marine. However, these are the same individuals who show no remorse or concern for killing our future Americans, by the most heinous of practices. It was our own President, Barack Obama who as a State Senator supported legislation that would condemn to death a child who survived an abortion. It is this same individual who stated, "If my daughters became pregnant, I would not punish them with a baby". God gave us the gift of life, we have turned it into a culture of death......and our society cannot reach its full potential under this culture. In the case of rape, incest, and "actual" endangerment of a mother's health the decision truly belongs with a woman. However, I will never support abortion as a means of birth control. I will never support the premise that abortion promotes a woman's right to privacy. The choice is clear to me: Individual responsibility, accountability and life. An interesting piece of news hit Floridians this past week like a Category 5 hurricane: Our unemployment rate is at 11.8%. And that is the reported number. One can only imagine what the "real" number is. I just have to tip my hat to Congressman Ron Klein and his support of the insidious liberal economic agenda which is destroying free enterprise and job creation in America. What our great country needs right now is less "stimulus" and jobs "saved or created" from Washington and more opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses to start up new companies, expand existing ones, free from the yoke of a burdensome tax and regulatory scheme hatched in Washington. In closing, this week marked one year since Barack Obama became President. It was the same week that liberals lost a Senate seat in Massachusetts, Air American shut down, and health care appears to be breathing its last breathes. Our Nation's unemployment is at an all time high for the past 20 years. Our deficit has tripled, the debt soars past $12.4 trillion, we continue to print and borrow more money while seeking more ways to raise taxes. GITMO is not closed and we are "lawyering up" illegal enemy combatants. In December, Sean Hannity asked me to grade the President, I said failing....anyone up for a debate? Steadfast and Loyal, Allen
